Trailer Reaction: Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn

Between Pennywise the dancing clown in Stephen King's IT and a reboot of DC's supervillain Joker, clowns are all the rage in Hollywood right now. But one version that broke out of the pack and revitalized the trend a few years ago was Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn in the critically panned Suicide Squad.

After a highly anticipated wait for her own solo flick, the trailer for Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn has finally dropped. The results are exciting and controversial, to say the least.

Here's a look at the trailer, some info of the plot and characters, and my own reaction. Hope you enjoy!

After gathering even more steam in Hollywood following his award-winning musical La La Land, director Damien Chazelle decided to take one giant leap from Tinseltown to outer space. Teaming up again with human unicorn Ryan Gosling, the two embark on a biopic of prolific astronaut Neil Armstrong becoming the first man to walk on the moon for the Apollo 11 mission in 1969.

If you've been following my obsession admiration Ryan Gosling here or on twitter, then you must know that this post was an inevitable. Ya'll know how much I love Harry Potter, but if you dived into the penseive with me for a second...you might be surprised to know my initial reaction to Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them wasn't the rapturous adoration one might expect. Fast forward two years to today, and the first film has increasingly become one of my favorites of the series. I've watched it countless times to the point that I have it memorized, not to mention that I just want to hold Newt, Tina, Jacob, Queenie, and all of his magical creatures and never let them go.

So it's pretty exciting that after a long, controversial wait for more news about the sequel, the official teaser has finally been released! #WandsReady? Let's go!

Fifty Shades Freed (2017) Trailer Reaction

Fifty Shades Freed Trailer Reaction
Photo Credit: Fifty Shades Darker / Universal Pictures
So the last trailer for the Fifty Shades series has finally been revealed. If you've been following me for a while, you might know I harbor a complex love / hate relationship with this trilogy. I'm not ashamed to admit (okay, maybe a tiny bit): I'm excited for this. For the past three years, I've gone to the theaters cringing my way through the movies, letting the novels take me back to college when I didn't know I'd fall down this rabbit hole. It's only fitting, in the occasional tradition of fangirling, to do a trailer reaction.

Based on the books by E.L. James, virgin bookworm Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) doesn't run away from possessive billionaire Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) the second she realizes he is the mayor of Crazy Town. No, they fall in love and fix each other all in the name of vanilla sex. So let's begin! This trailer is NSFW. "Spoilers" below.

Hype has been building for this galactic movie since Comic Con this year, and why not - it's filled with every actor of the Marvel Cinematic Universe all kicking butt and taking names.

Star Trek: Discovery Trailer Reaction

Unlike the trailer reactions usually reserved for movies, CBS dropped a new teaser for the highly anticipated Star Trek spin-off that I just couldn't want to tap my keys about.

Set ten years before Kirk and Spock embarked on adventures across the galaxies, Trekkers will join Michelle Yeoh and Sonequa Martin-Green aboard Star Trek: Discovery this fall. Even a Vulcan would get the feels for this trailer. Here it is in full!

This sneak peak comes swiftly after a series of grueling announcements from networks cleaning house and canceling television shows. Studios are now trying to entice viewers with fresh content to fill the void of long-gone favorites. No doubt about it, this trailer has gotten me really excited for fall.

Discovery is a prequel to the initial Star Trek series, but the similar camaraderie between the Starfleet crew permeates across time and space. Longtime Captain Philippa Georgiou (Yeoh) gives First Officer Michael Burnham (Green) an opportunity helm U.S.S. Discovery when they're entangled with the Klingon Empire. They're faced with the tough decisions of how to maintain their humanity, keep the peace, or engage in an unwanted war.

The first of my feels, or probably all of them, are struck with seeing two women command the starship alongside the other eclectic personalities on the bridge. More cast members include Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter), Rainn Wilson (The Office), and Anthony Rapp (Rent),  Not that the series hasn't had a female captain before, but who gets tired of seeing women helping other women succeed? Star Trek has always centered on the human (and non-human) condition first, and adventures set against space second. Fascinating issues will likely arise between the different species, and how they co-exist.

Star Trek: Discovery's first season will be told in fifteen episodes. Showrunner Bryan Fuller said that each episode is a chapter, within each chapter will be a beginning, middle, and end.” The writing team has sturdy experience with the Trek universe so far, with a myriad of credits from Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek: Into Darkness) to Nicholas Meyer (Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country).

What we know of the plot is that it's set in the Prime universe, closer to the original 1966 series instead of the Kelvin timeline for the recent movies starring Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto. The appearance of Klingons have completely changed, not to mention that the production incorporates a lot of J.J. Abram's use of lens flare. Though Fuller's creation certainly has the technology to produce a budget-friendly production with impressive special effects, some fans might struggle to connect the dots of inspiration this tale is drawing from.

Details coming to light such as the starship's slick design, those iconic uniforms, and a new alien species which can sense death, hint that we're definitely in for an original expedition in a familiar era. With the story in mind and a unique cast of characters, it'll be fascinating to see what events link this prequel to the William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy starring game changer we know and love.

The first episode will premiere on CBS with all subsequent episodes becoming available on the channel's exclusive streaming service All Access. It will also be accompanied by a post-show called Talking Trek.

Are you guys ready to go boldly where Discovery voyages? What do you think?

Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017) Teaser Reaction

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Teaser Trailer
Photo Credit: Star Wars / Walt Disney Studios
This year's Star Wars Celebration has been an epic reflection of the forty-year franchise created by George Lucas. It promised an action-packed weekend of panels, tributes, and news for fans. Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm did not disappoint with a thrilling teaser of the next installment Star Wars: The Last Jedi! The anticipation for the eighth film has been galactic-sized proportions as we've waited to see what happens in the next battle of the forces.

Take a look! (Spoilers below!) What are your first reactions? Feel free to share in the comments!

My first reaction is that I want the movie too. I. WANT. IT. NOW.

In expert Disney fashion, the teaser is just as cryptic as the initial Star Wars: The Force Awakens' first look. But that just gives us further room to get hyped up and the anticipation to build.

Rey is obviously receiving training by the one and only Luke Skywalker. But will they have moved from their speechless staredown and how far long has Luke been mentoring her Empire Strikes Back style?

As she begins her journey to bring balance to the force, events surrounding the Resistance's stand against the First Order are growing direr as battle scenes take place on other planets and throughout the universe. We get a sneak peek at what her friends are up to:

Finn is shown resting in what looks like a medical bay. One fan translated the Aurebesh text to reveal that he's in stable condition. Is he recovering from the back injury he sustained during Ren and Rey's lightsaber showdown or something else he suffers in another fight? What will his journey be like in finding his place in the Resistance?

Other tidbits in the trailer include: Poe and BB8 are on the move again to fight in the sky, but the landing bay he needs to use is blown up.

Is that an old set of books on a wooden shelf in Luke's cave?

Someone's hands runs down the vintage Jedi symbol.

The Millennium Falcon flies again.

What will be Luke's first words? I'm thinking somewhere along the lines "I've been expecting you."

Not only has the trailer sparked new questions, but also calls on older questions still left over from Force Awakens to be answered Who is Rey's parents? Given Carrie Fisher's unfortunate passing, what will General Leia's role be in her last installment?

On the opposite end of the spectrum of Luke mentoring Rey, we still have much to learn about Kylo Ren and the seducer of the dark side Supreme Leader Snoke. As another planet goes up in flames with Ren walking through the rubble, obviously he is living up to his grandfather's legacy. Will we see more of Snoke other than a hologram? What planet did, Matt the Radar technician, I mean Kylo Ren scorch this time? Who falls to their knees next to R2D2?

Even though Skywalker is teaching Rey the ways of the force, his final words ominously declare: "I only know one truth. It's time for the Jedi to end." Does Skywalker believe the Jedi way is over or will it evolve into something else?

I don't know about ya'll but I can't wait! The next installment is written and directed by Rian Johnson (Brick and Looper). Making Christmas even more special, Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters December 15th, 2017.

What did you think of the Last Jedi trailer? What you most excited about? Feel free to share in the comments!
