Thursday Movie Picks Television Edition: 2020 Freshmen Series

Wandering Through the Shelves hosts Thursday Movie Picks. It's a weekly series where bloggers post and share various movie picks every Thursday.

The rules are simple: based on the theme of the week pick three to five movies and tell us why you picked them. For further details and the schedule visit the series main page here.

This week is TMP Television Edition: 2020 Freshmen Series - shows that had their first season last year. I discovered during lockdown that I'm not an avid binge-watcher as I thought I would be. My picks were pretty limited, and I wasn't crazy about these. I would not blame anyone for just skipping this post.

Ratched

Ryan Murphy continues to give Sarah Paulson a thousand roles a year, and that's pretty much the only reason I watched this. I honestly thought Ratched was going to be a one-time mini-series, so color me surprised that it has a few more in store. The first season typical Murphy contrived storytelling, so it's only worth it for the LGBTQ+ representation and Sarah.

Hunters

World War II was one of my main history interests growing up. I was fascinated to see a series where Jewish survivors hunt down Nazis in the 1970s that explored the generational differences of survivors and their kin after the Holocaust. And, to see Logan Lerman in a starring role again. The first few episodes were compelling and surprisingly campy, but the series became too predictable. Once I figured out the big twist, and the series went through with it, the series fell off the radar for me.

Space Force

The creator of The Office and Steve Carrell making fun of Trump's Space Force should be a recipe for success...but the humor was all off from the beginning. It's not a satire or sitcom - it's just bunch of lame jokes that aren't even that funny. And one of the characters were appealing either. Unfortunately, Netflix renewed this one too.
